தஞ்சைப் பெரிய கோயில் உட்பட இன்றுள்ள பல கோயில்கள் சமண/புத்த கோயில்களை இடித்துக் கட்டப்பட்டவைதானே. இராசராசன் இலங்கையிலுள்ள அநுராதபுரம், பொலனருவை ஆகிய இடங்களிலிருந்த புத்தக் கோயில்களை இடித்துத் தரைமட்டமாக்கி அந்த ஊர்களுக்கு ‘ஜனநாத மங்கலம்’ என்னு தன்னுடைய பெயரைச் சூட்டவில்லையா?
சுபதாவர்மன் (கி.பி. 1193-1120) என்கிற ‘பார்மரா’ மன்னன் குஜராத்தைத் தாக்கி அங்கிருந்த சமணக் கோயில்களைக் கொள்ளையிடவில்லையா?
காஷ்மீர் இந்து மன்னன் ஹர்ஷன் ஆட்சியில் கோயில்களை இடிப்பதற்கென்றே ஸ்பெஷல் ஆபீசராக ‘தெய்வங்களை நிர்மூலம் செய்கிற அதிகாரி’ (தேவோத்பத நாயகன்) என்று ஒரு அதிகாரி நியமிக்கப்பட்டிருந்ததாக கல்ஹணன் எழுதிய ராஜதரங்கிணில் குறிப்பிடப்பட்டுள்ளதே!
பவுத்த சமணக் கோவில்களை இடித்துத்தான் தஞ்சைப் பெரிய கோவில், காஞ்சி காமாட்சி கோவில் போன்றவையெல்லாம் கட்டப்பட்டன என சுரேஷ்பிள்ளை, மயிலை சீனிவேங்கடசாமி ஆகிய வரலாற்றாசிரியர்கள் எழுதியுள்ளனரே !.
திருவாரூர் கோவில் திருக்குளத்தை விரிவு செய்ய வேண்டும் எனக் காரணம் சொல்லி அங்கிருந்த சமணக் குடியிருப்பு அழிக்கப்பட்டது குறித்துப் பெரியபுராணத்திலேயே சான்றுகள் உள்ளன.
நம்ம தமிழ்நாட்டு ராஜாக்கள் கூட, அந்தக் காலத்தில் வடநாட்டை வென்றான், இமயத்திலே புலிக் கொடி பறக்க விட்டான், கங்கை கொண்டான், கடாரம் கொண்டான், இலங்கையை வென்றான் , கனக விசயர் தலையில் கல் சுமக்க வைத்து கண்ணகிக்கு சிலை எடுத்தனர் என்றெல்லாம் , நாம் நம் நாட்டு அரசர்களைப் பற்றிப் பெருமை பேசுகிறோமா இல்லையா? இவை மட்டும் சரியா?
எனவே கோயில் இடிப்பு என்பதை எந்த ஒரு குறிப்பிட்டமதத்தைப் பின்பற்றும் மக்களின் செயலாகவும் கருத வேண்டியதில்லை. இதே போல்தான் கஜினி முகமது உடைய பாலைவன நாட்டிலே, பயிர், பச்சைக்கே பஞ்சம். நம் நாட்டிலே ஐந்து நதி பாயும், பஞ்சாப் பகுதி வளமாக இருந்தது. தனது மதத்தை நிலை நிறுத்தி தனக்கு வேண்டியதை எடுக்கும் அந்நாளைய அரசர்களின் பழக்கப்படியே படையெடுத்து வந்தான். அத்துடன் தன்னுள் மதரீதியான நோக்கமும் தீயாக எரிந்துகொண்டிருந்தது.
கோயில் கொள்ளயடிக்கப்பட்டதற்கு முன்பு அங்கு நிலவிய சூழல், அன்றய சமூக அமைப்பு , போன்ற பலவற்றையும் சுட்டிக்காட்டி, இந்த கோயில் தாக்கப்பட்டது தொடர்பான ஒரு ஆய்வை (SOMANATHA The Many Voices of a History, ROMILA THAPAR, PENGUIN BOOKS. Penguin First Edition 2008 ) என்கிற தனது வரலாற்று நூலில் ரொமிலா தாப்பர் என்கிற வரலாற்று ஆசிரியர் நடுநிலை நின்று ஆய்ந்து எழுதி இருக்கிறார். இந்த ஆய்வை முன்னெடுக்க தான் எடுத்துக்கொள்ளும் சாட்சியங்களையும், சொல்லி அப்படியே, அந்தச் சான்றுகளில் உள்ளவற்றையும், அச்சான்றுகளின் நம்பகத்தன்மையையும், விளக்கிக் கொண்டே சென்று உச்சநிலையாக, மேற்கண்ட சான்றுகளிலிருந்து எவ்வாறு மதச்சார்பற்றத் தன்மை உடைக்கப்பட்டது என்பதையும், மத வெறுப்புணர்வு வளர்க்கப்பட்டதையும் கூறுகிறார்.
அவர் ஆய்வுக்கு எடுத்துக் கொள்ளும் ஐந்து வகையான சான்றுகள்:-
1. துருக்கிய-பாரசீகச் சான்றுகள்
2. கஜினி முகமது காலத்திய சமணச் சான்றுகள்
3. சோமநாதபுரத்திலுள்ள் சமஸ்கிருதக் கல்வெட்டுகள்
4. பிரிட்டிஷ் நாடாளுமன்றத்தின் மக்களவையில் நடந்த விவாதங்கள்
5. தேசிய வாதிகளின் பார்வைகள் ( கெ.எம் முன்ஷி , பண்டித நேரு ).
இந்த ஐந்து வகைச் சான்றுகளில் இருந்து, ஒவ்வொன்றையும், விளக்கி, கஜினி முகம்மது சோமநாதர் ஆலயக் கொள்ளை மற்றும் சிலை உடைப்பால் மட்டுமே இஸ்லாத்தின் வெற்றியாளராக கருதப்படவில்லை என்பதையும், அன்றைய நாளிலிருந்து இன்று வரைத் தொடரும் ஷியா-சன்னி உள்ளடிச் சண்டைகளில் முகம்மதுவின் நிலைப்பாட்டாலும், அன்றைய குதிரை வணிகத்துக்கும் உள்ள தொடர்பினாலும் ஆதிக்கப் போட்டியுமே முகம்மதுவை இஸ்லாத்தின் வெற்றியாளராக நிலைத்திருக்கச் செய்யும் காரணங்களென்றும் விளக்குகிறார்.

மீண்டும் சோமநாதர் ஆலயம் அரசின் சார்பாக புதுப்பிக்கப்படுவதும், குஜராத் முதல்வர் முதலிய அரசின் பிரதிநிதிகள் அவ்விழாவில் கலந்து கொள்வதும், மதச்சார்பற்ற தன்மைக்கு குந்தகத்தையும், மதத் துவேஷத்தையுமே வளர்க்கும், அது இந்து தேசிய உணர்ச்சியின் வளர்ச்சிக்கே உதவுமென்ற கருத்து கொண்டிருந்த நேருவின் கொள்கைக்கும் மற்ற இந்து தேசியவாதிகளுக்குமான முரண்பாட்டை ஐந்தாவது வகை ஆதாரமாகக் கொண்டு, மதப்பூசல்களுக்காக கிளறப்படுவதையும் ரோமிலா தாப்பர் விளக்குகிறார்.
ஒருநிகழ்வு, பலவேறு விதமான ஆதாரங்களையும் கட்டுக்கதைகளையும் கொண்டு விளங்குவது, உண்மையான வரலாற்றுக்கு நம்மை இட்டுச் செல்லாமல், ஒவ்வொருவரும் தான் எவ்வகையான நிலைப்பாட்டைக் கொண்டிருக்கிறாரோ, அதை நோக்கிய முன் முடிவோடே செல்லும் நிலையை கொண்டு செல்லும் என்பதையும், அது என்றுமே வரலாற்றைப் படிப்பதற்கான சரியான அணுகுமுறை அல்லவென்பதையும் விளக்குகிறார்.

சோமநாதர் ஆலயப் படையெடுப்பைப் பொறுத்தவரை ஒரு கோயில் உருவ வழிபாட்டிலிருந்து மீட்டெடுக்கப் படுவதே நோக்கமாக இருந்தது. ஆனால் இந்த சம்பவத்தை வைத்து மதங்களுக்குள் மோதல்களை உருவாக்க பல ஆதாரங்களை மறைத்து அல்லது திணித்து எழுதுவது பலருக்கு வாடிக்கையாக இருக்கிறது என்று ரொமிலா தாப்பர் குறிப்பிடுகிறார். ஓர் வரலாற்றின் பல குரல்களாகச் சிதறியிருந்த ஆதாரத் தொகுப்புகளை இணைத்து அந் நிகழ்வின் மீது புதிய ஒளியை அவர் பாய்ச்சியுள்ளார்.
அன்றைய வரலாற்று சூழல்களில் கஜினி முகமது செய்தது தவறாக எண்ணப் படவில்லை. உதரணமாக , ராணி சம்யுக்தையை பிருதிவிராஜன் தூக்கிக் கொண்டுபோய் திருமணம் முடித்துக் கொண்டான் என்ற சம்பவத்தை, வரலாறு இனிப்பு வழங்கி கைதட்டிக் கொண்டாடி குறிப்பிடுகிறது. ( Prithiviraj who was hiding behind the statue, also in the garb of a doorman, whisked Sanyogita away and put her up on his steed to make a fast getaway to his capital at Delhi ) அதே போல்தான் சோமனாதபுரத்து நிகழ்வையும் ஒரு அந்நிய நாட்டு அரசனின் வெற்றிக்கான படையெடுப்பு என்று வரலாறு குறிக்கவேண்டும். ஆனால் அந்த நிகழ்வுக்கு கிட்டத்தட்ட ஆயிரம் ஆண்டுகளுக்கும் மேலாக மதப் பாகுபாடுகளாக நீள்வதுதான் வியப்பு. இந்த இடைப்பட்ட காலங்களில் அந்நிகழ்வின் விளக்கங்கள் எவ்வாறு மாறி வந்துள்ளன என்பதில்தான் அதற்கான அரசியல் உள்ளடக்கம் பொதிந்துள்ளது. இந்த விளக்கங்கள் துவேஷத்தின் வித்துகளைத் தாங்கியிருந்தன; இஸ்லாமியருக்கு எதிரான இந்து தேசியத்தை அமைத்துக் கொள்ள இவை பயன்படுவது நவீனகால அரசியல் வெளிப்பாடுகள் ஆகும். இந்தத்தளைப்புக்கான பதிவின் நோக்கமும் இதை சுட்டிக் காட்டவே.
கஜினி முகமது , சோமநாதர் ஆலயம் மற்றும் குஜராத் வரலாறு குறித்து கடந்த 100 ஆண்டுகளில் ஏராளமான ஆய்வுகள் மேற்கொள்ளப்பட்டுள்ளன. சில குறிப்பிடத்தக்க ஆய்வுகள் தவிர பெரும்பாலானவை சோமநாதர் கோயில் மீண்டும் கட்டப்பட வேண்டும் என்பதை வலியுறுத்தி எழுதப்பட்டவை. குறுகிய நோக்கில் எழுதப்பட்ட இந்த வரலாறுகள் இந்திய வரலாறு குறித்து காலனி ஆதிக்க சக்திகள் பிரித்தாளும் உள்நோக்கத்தோடு கட்டமைத்தவற்றைப் பின்பற்றி எழுதப்பட்டவை. குறிப்பாக கே. எம். முன்ஷி போன்றோர் முன்வைத்த கருதுக்களுக்கு அன்றைய பிரதமர் நேரு ஆணித்தரமாக பதில் அளித்தார். இந்திய வரலாறு குறித்த தொடக்ககால நூல்களை காலனி ஆதிக்கத்தார் விரும்பியவாறே கருத்துக்களை திணித்து எழுதத் துணிந்தது ஒரு வரலாற்று சோகம். அவை இந்து வரலாறு என்றும், இஸ்லாமிய ஆதிக்க வரலாறு என்றும், ஆங்கிலேய வரலாறு என்றும், இவற்றில் ஆங்கிலேயர் காலமே சிறந்தது என்றும் ஆங்கில அரசின் அடிவருடிகளான காலனிய வரலாற்றாசிரியர்கள் திரைக்கதை வசனம் அமைத்துள்ளனர். இதனால் இந்தியாவில் என்றென்றும் மத மோதல்கள் இருந்தன என்றும், இஸ்லாமியர் ஆட்சிக்குப் பிறகே இது தொடங்கியது, இதைத் தொடங்கியவர் கஜினி முகமது என்றும் அவர்கள் திட்டமிட்டு வரலாற்றைக் கட்டமைத்தனர். இதிலிருந்தே இந்தியா இரண்டு தேசங்களைக் கொண்டது என்ற மதவாதக் கருத்து உருவாகியது. இதற்கு மையப்புள்ளியாக சோமநாதர் ஆலயப் படையெடுப்பு நிகழ்வு முன்மொழியப்படுகிறது. எனவே பிற்கால வரலாற்றாசிரியர்களும் இதிலிருந்து மீள முடியாமல் அதற்குள்ளேயே செக்குமாடாக சுற்றிச் சுழன்றுள்ளனர். இதையே காரணமாக்கித்தான் இன்றைய பாரதீய ஜனதாவின் கட்சி, தனது அரசியல் நோக்கங்களில் ஒன்றாக அகண்ட பாரதம் என்கிற கோரிக்கையை வைக்கின்றனர். அதாவது இன்றைய இந்தியா, பிரிந்து போன பாகிஸ்தான், வங்கதேசம் , அடுத்துள்ள ஆப்கானிஸ்தான் ஆகியவைகளை மீண்டும் ஒன்றிணைத்து அகண்ட பாரதம் அமைக்க வேண்டுமாம். வெளங்கிடும்.

சோமநாதர் ஆலயம் கஜினியின் முகமதுவால் இடிக்கப்பட்டது என்பதிலிருந்து எதிர் எதிராக இரு மதங்களின் சக்திகளை பிரிப்பதற்காக முன்னிறுத்தும் வகைப்பட்ட வரலாறு இந்தியாவில் துவங்குகிறது. இந்து-முஸ்லீம் வெறுப்புணர்வின் சிக்கலான நூலின் முடிச்சின் முனையைத் தேடிக் கொண்டே போனால், அது கோயில்களை இடித்து தங்கள் மத வழிபாட்டு நிலையங்களை மேம்படுத்தினார்கள், மதத்தை அழித்தார்கள், செல்வங்களை கொள்ளை அடித்தார்கள் என்ற குற்றச்சாட்டுகளிலேயே போய் நிற்கும். பல ஆயிரம் ஆண்டுகளுக்குப் பிறகும் நேற்றைய நீதி மன்ற தீர்ப்பு வரை நீளும் பிரச்சினைதான் இது. மேலோட்டக் கண்ணோட்டத்தில் வரலாற்றைப் பார்க்கும் சிலர் அடிப்படையான பிரச்னைகள் அல்லது நிகழ்ச்சிகளைக் குறிப்பிடாமல் எழுதிய அரைகுறை வரலாறுகளே இவற்றிற்கு காரணம். உதாரணமாக, ஒருவனை நாய் துரத்தியது . அவன் நாயை கல்லால் அடித்தான் என்று ஒரு சம்பவம் நடந்தால் நாய் துரத்தியதை மறைத்துவிட்டு நாயை கல்லால் அடித்தான் என்று மட்டும் சிலர் எழுதுகிறார்கள். அல்லது நாய் துரத்தியது என்று மட்டும் எழுதுகிறார்கள்.
வரலாற்றில் அடிப்படைப் பிரச்னை என்னவென்றால் நமது வரலாற்றை நாமே எழுதிப் பதிந்தவைகள் மிகவும் குறைவு. இந்திய வரலாற்றுக்கு பெரும்பாலும் ஆதாரங்களாகக் காட்டபடுபவை அந்நிய நாட்டினரால் எழுதப் பட்ட வரலாற்றுக் குறிப்புகளே. ஐரோப்பிய வரலாற்று ஆசிரியர்கள் தங்களின் கருத்துக்களின் திணிப்பை வரலாற்றில் பதிந்து வைத்திருப்பது பரவலாக இருக்கிறது. சரி, இந்த அத்தியாயத்தின் கஜினி முகமது பற்றி இனி பார்க்கலாம்.

முதலாவதாக, முகமது கஜினி கொள்ளை அடிப்பதற்காக இந்தியா மீது படை எடுத்தான் என்று சொல்வது சரியல்ல. அவனது நோக்கம் அது அல்ல. அடிப்படையில் அல்லது வெளிப்பார்வையில் ஒரு தவறாகத் தோன்றலாம். இதற்கா வக்காலத்து வாங்கி எழுதுகிறாய் ? என்றும் சிலர் கேட்கலாம் அல்லது எண்ணலாம். ஆனால் அந்தக் கால அரச நாகரிகங்கள், பழக்கங்கள், பண்பாடுகள் ஆகியவற்றை மனதில் கொண்டு படித்தால் கஜினி முகமது மேல் தவறில்லை என்றே முடிவுக்கு வர முடியும். அப்படி ஒருவேளை கஜினி முகமதுவை குற்றவாளிக் கூண்டில் ஏற்றினால் அதே கூண்டில் வேறு சில அரசர்களையும் ஏற்ற வேண்டி வரும். இவற்றுள் நமது சேர சோழ பாண்டியர்களும் அடக்கம்.
சோமநாதர் கோயில் படையெடுப்பு அல்லது கொள்ளை மத ரீதியான படையெடுப்பு அல்ல. அதேபோல முகமது கஜினி இந்தியாவில் இஸ்லாத்தைப் பரப்பவோ, இங்கு இஸ்லாமிய ஆட்சியை உருவாக்கவோ இந்தியாவுக்குள் ஊடுருவவில்லை. முகமதுவைப் பொருத்தவரை காஜானாவத் பேரரசை பாக்தாத் காலிப்புக்கு போட்டியாக உருவாக்க நினைத்தார். இதனால் அவரது வரலாற்றை எழுதியவர்களும், அவரது அரசவைக் கவிஞர்களும் தங்கள் மாமன்னரின் வீரபராக்கிரமங்களை அதீதமாக மிகைப்படுத்தி எழுதினார்கள். இதற்கு அவர்களது ராஜவிசுவாசமே காரணம். கஜினி முகமது இந்தியா வரும் முன்னரே இந்தியாவில் இஸ்லாமியர்கள் இருந்தனர். அவர்கள் பெரும்பாலும் அராபியர்கள். இந்தியர்களுடன் வணிகம் மேற்கொள்வதற்காக அவர்கள் இங்கு குடியேறினர். ஆனால், கஜினி முகமதுவின் வருகை வியாபாரம் அல்ல. தான் விரும்பிய பேரரசுக்கு செல்வம் சேர்க்க அன்றைய போர்களின் தர்மத்தின்படி போர்கள் மூலம் கொள்ளைகளை நிகழ்த்தினார். அப்போது மிகவும் செல்வச்செழிப்புள்ள கோயில் நிர்வாகமாக சோமநாதர் ஆலயம் இருந்தது. பாலையான ஆப்கானிஸ்தானைச் சார்ந்த கஜினி முகமதுவுக்கு காஜானாவத் பேரரசை பாக்தாத் காலிப்புக்கு போட்டியாக , இந்தியாவில் ஓர் இஸ்லாமிய சாம்ராஜ்யத்தை நிறுவுவதே தலையாய நோக்கம். அதன் தொடர்ச்சியே கொள்ளைகள்.
